We are Blue in Green - Joan Izod on sax, Peter Roby on piano and Barrie Griffin on double bass. We play for charities, special occasions, open day events and venues that enjoy Bossa, Swing, Blues and our own compositions.

I have played in many musical ensembles, from big bands to saxophone quartets to folk and theatre groups. I have taught music to 5 year olds and to 75 year olds. In London I was in a band called The Creamies (and later Sister Rebop.) We were runner up Band of the Year at the Academy in Brixton and also played at the Notting Hill Carnival. Now I play with my own band Blue In Green and another local band. As a reed player of clarinet, soprano sax, tenor and alto sax, I love music and listen to a diverse array across world music, contemporary jazz, folk and classical. I write my own music now, which gives me great pleasure to play and perform.

I'm a jazz piano/keyboard player. I live in Watford and have been playing and teaching music all my life in the Hertfordshire area. I also play violin and find it very rewarding to teach players of all ages and levels. I enjoy listening to good players of all styles,
including jazz, folk and classical and am especially enjoying playing in the BlueinGreen trio and working with Joan on arrangements for the tunes she writes for the saxophone.

Barrie Griffin, our bass-player, is based in Berkhamsted and has performed with many local jazz groups and singers over the last 15 years, ranging from Big Bands and Dixieland groups to Hot Club and Bebop ensembles.
He continues to enjoy playing with a wide variety of groups, but his real passion is the Great American Songbook.
One of his current projects involves a series of concerts about the music associated with the inspirational life of Nica Rothschild, the "Jazz Baroness".
He loves the space and freedom involved in playing with Blue in Green.

I’ve been playing the bass for as long as I can remember and jazz for only a few years less! I particularly enjoy playing in duos and small ensembles allowing the opportunity to explore the tunes and improvise. I’ve also had the opportunity to play on a number of recordings particularly two albums in the duo Beatnik Fringe, mixing bossa nova with original music.I continue to play in a variety of jazz outfits from duos to eight piece bands, playing jazz standards, blues and Latin.
